Access to Country Protocol

Purpose of This Protocol

Joombarn-buru Traditional Owners maintain their right to access Country through available access routes. This protocol applies specifically when Traditional Owners choose to access Country via the Thunderbird haul road. Prior notification must be provided to the Thunderbird Gatehouse so safe travel can be coordinated with current mining operations. This notification is for safety and coordination purposes and is not a request for permission to access Country.

IMPORTANT

  • This protocol applies only when accessing Country via the Thunderbird haul road. Other access routes to Country are not covered by this process.

Before Travel

  • Notify the Thunderbird Gatehouse at least 24 hours before travelling on the haul road.

  • For weekend travel, please provide notification before 12 noon on Thursday where possible.

  • Provide the proposed date and time of travel, vehicle details, destination, and the names of everyone travelling.

  • Notification supports safe coordination with mining operations. It is not a request for permission to access Country.

At the Gatehouse

  • Report to the Gatehouse before entering the haul road.

  • Confirm the names of all travellers and provide photo identification if requested for site sign-in.

  • Complete the site sign-in and follow the current safety briefing.

  • Collect any radio or safety equipment required for travel on the haul road.

  • Follow site safety directions about active vehicle movements, temporary hazards or safe travel timing. concerns.

While Travelling (conditions of entry)

  • Use a roadworthy vehicle.

  • Drivers must hold a valid licence.

  • Keep headlights on and follow all posted speed limits and road directions.

  • Remain on the agreed travel route and keep clear of operational or restricted areas.

  • Children must be supervised and kept away from access roads and operating equipment.

  • No alcohol, drugs, firearms, drones or fireworks are permitted within operational areas.

  • Respect Country, cultural places and materials, and take all rubbish with you.

Before Leaving

  • Sign out at the Gatehouse and return any radio or equipment provided.

  • Confirm that everyone has safely exited the haul road.

Privacy and Information Use

Information provided in the application will be used only for access coordination, cultural safety, and operational compliance. Details are shared with JBAC and KMS Gatehouse personnel as required. Personal information will be stored securely and managed in accordance with JBAC policy.
