JBAC Camera Story & Drone Youth Workshop

27/07/2026. JBAC recently held a fantastic three-day Camera Story & Drone Youth Workshop, giving our young people the opportunity to learn new skills, get creative, have fun and connect with Country.

On Tuesday, the kids visited the Derby Wetlands, where they learnt how to use cameras and safely fly drones while capturing the beautiful surroundings.

On Wednesday, they visited KMS for a mine site tour, before heading to the Homestead to continue practising their photography and drone skills.

To finish the workshop on Thursday, JBAC held a special NAIDOC morning tea for our Elders, where the kids proudly showcased the photos and drone footage they had created over the three days.

It was a wonderful few days filled with learning, laughter, creativity and connection. We are very proud of what our young people achieved!

A big thank you to Camera Story - Halina and Donny, KMS, Nunga Group, our amazing kids, facilitators and JBAC staff for making the workshop such a memorable experience.

Thunderbird Reaches One Million Tonne Bulk Export Milestone

27/06/2025. Kimberley Mineral Sands (KMS) is celebrating a major achievement with the recent export of the one millionth wet metric ton (WMT) of product from Thunderbird Operations through the Port of Broome since bulk exports began in March 2024.

Minister suspends works approval at Kimberley mine site to protect sacred object

27/12/2023. The Western Australian Minister for Aboriginal Affairs has intervened in a controversial Kimberley mining site, partially suspending section 18 approvals given for works at the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project after Traditional Owners alerted his department to a culturally significant object.

In March 2022 NAIF made an Investment Decision to offer financial assistance of up to $160 million to Kimberley Mineral Sands (KMS) to support the development of the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
