Thunderbird Reaches One Million Tonne Bulk Export Milestone

27/06/2025. Kimberley Mineral Sands (KMS) is celebrating a major achievement with the recent export of the one millionth wet metric ton (WMT) of product from Thunderbird Operations through the Port of Broome since bulk exports began in March 2024.

Minister suspends works approval at Kimberley mine site to protect sacred object

27/12/2023. The Western Australian Minister for Aboriginal Affairs has intervened in a controversial Kimberley mining site, partially suspending section 18 approvals given for works at the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project after Traditional Owners alerted his department to a culturally significant object.

NAIF’s Investment in the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project

In March 2022 NAIF made an Investment Decision to offer financial assistance of up to $160 million to Kimberley Mineral Sands (KMS) to support the development of the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
